If it is affordable to install and use solar panels, why would the markets wait? There may be good reasons. Affordable does not mean cheaper than the alternatives. The markets may also be waiting for competition to drive the price of solar panels down.

One comment on Solar Energy efficiency just underlines the point of how inefficient solar energy may be now. The author should take into account that his calculations are based on several big assumptions. (1) He takes the lowest cost of installing solar energy into account. If he took his upper bound of $70, everything else constant, the cost of his solar panel will be recouped in 20 years, not 6. (2) If current average energy consumption is $150 instead of $250, the costs are recouped in 12 years. (3) if solar panels are installed in windy and cloudy Chicago where solar panels can be used 1/3 of the year, the costs are recouped in 20 years. Also, what if there is no subsidy? What is the life of solar panels?
